I, Selva Rani, Founder and Managing Trustee, and four other Social activists joined together and established an organisation in the name of the Mutual Education for Empowerment and Rural Action (MEERA) Foundation in 2000. The MEERA Foundation is located in Tamil Nadu, India.
MEERA is a women’s organisation; its activities are based on women and gender. Its major initiatives are focused on Women Empowerment, Water and the Environment, Natural Resource Management, Education, Community Health, HIV/AIDS Prevention, TB Control and Care, Child Survival, Maternal and Newborn Child Health, Reducing Abortion Stigmas, Ending Child Marriage, and Eradicating Child Labour. Our organization values transparency and systematic administration.
We do projects with the Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme (RNTCP); Global Fund for AIDS, TB and Malaria (GFATM); Ministry of Women and Child Development (Childline India Foundation); and Nourish International – USA.
Past projects include collaborations with GIZ German BACKUP Initiative, and Women Deliver – USA.
MEERA seeks support for HIV affected mothers and children and the TB affected community through a holistic approach of nutrition, psycho-social support, medical support, education, skill development and livelihood programmes.
We hope that like-minded people, philanthropic organizations, volunteers and other service foundations may support our activities for delivering quality service.
